Most people see buying art as more intimidating than buying real estate. I, for one have felt this way several times. On my recent Adventures in Styleland, working with Denise at an art installation, she gave me a peak into the world I know very little of (another crash course for me!!) Denise tells me, ” expose yourself to as much art as possible, read, research… study…” Ok.. but I was thinking what else would help me overcome my fear of choosing art for my clients. As I’m learning about artists and genres.
I thought of some casual ways to over come my intimidation..
You could Go to artists’ fairs, here is one that is coming up shortly.. Local for me in NYC
New York Affordable Art Fair Get ready to fall in love with several thousand works of art at the Affordable Art Fair New York.
Check out an online art gallery,
Art.sy: Functioning as a sort of “Pandora for art,” Art.sy allows collectors to search online for fine artworks using a detailed set of criteria, including art-historical movements, subject matter and formal qualities. https://artsy.net/
Attend artist open studio events,
http://highlineopenstudios.org/
Then I was thinking…. It’s all subjective, there are no rights or wrongs about why you love a certain piece of art or style just realizing what type of art works in a setting isn’t always the answer, it has a lot to do with what you or your client is drawn to, their personal taste.
so Enjoy!! And explore…
Well that’s all for today!!
As always stay tuned..
XOXO
