Bright colors or mellow hues, color is the key to kick spring into gear!! From rooms in your home to pieces of furniture you want add as an accent, color goes a long way. This is a before and after of my 2010  show house  room.

This is a sad old buffet that my brother-in-law brought to me and said “Wow” isn’t this just great? I was a bit unsure but once it was finished I thought “Wow” this is a great little piece!!!

I primed and painted it blue, sprayed the hardware white and Wella!! My niece Stefanie, is expecting and will use this as her baby’s dresser, we will make a top section for a changing pad and this will be repurposed into a nursery piece, transformed with color!!

A little bit of imagination and elbow grease goes a long way, here is another way to transform a piece of furniture with color.

I recently visited a client who had a corner cabinet. I loved it but it looked a little dated. I immediately thought a quick coat of paint and wrapping paper in the back. This is a great example! What a great background for this cabinet.

One more shot of the same cabinet with a blue quatre foil paper!! Such a different look. What ideas do you have? The possibilities are endless, you can use paint, paper or fabric. Just a little imagination and you too can transform your home for spring!

As Always stay tuned for more color ideas for spring!!

From the moment I started working on a design for my home I knew that this was something I was passionate about. I enjoyed exploring ideas, letting my imagination take over, no limits to what I could create in my mind. Of course my husband (who has been in construction for 30 years) is a great source of information for me. He always listens to my ideas and with his background in engineering and construction helps me bring my ideas to life!

I could only imagine…. That is how every design has started for me. My husband and I are soul mates, we dreamed of the home where we wanted to grow our family and somehow we were able to bring it from our mind to fruition. This was by far my biggest accomplishment in design, both my husband and I still sit every day in awe of what we have created.

Recently I have been working with Ted and Terri Gargano. They are a young couple who own a franchise called Certa Pro Painters, I was pleased when they asked me to come aboard as their interior design consultant. I have worked with them in the past and I appreciated their offer to use my talents to grow both Certapro Painters and my own deisign business. I love Envision Magazine, a publication that Certapro Painters puts out to inspire you, and also their blog, here is one of my favorite entries:

Colors for Fashionistas

Whether your home is a castle or condo, you can raise your status with these high society paint colors. Pamper yourself in decadent colors like Exclusive Plum or Gala Pink. Indulge in hues of Daring, or treat yourself to Champagne and Caviar- paint colors that is. What better way to live the dream than surrounding yourself with the colors of success.

CertaPro Painters is your home painting expert

Candice Olson - Love Her!!!

Ok so here we are February 2012 (Happy Valentine!!) and I am working on new colors and finishes. I am loving neutrals again, returning from the deep jewel tones to the lighter and brighter spaces that lift us up and make us feel as if we are new and crisp! I am still loving the Blues, such  a soothing color and wanting to use it paired with taupe and grey tones. Using color on trim to create a focal point or frame for the room. I just viewed a video for Certa Pro (who I have been working with) and loving the use of dark trim in this space http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fB4aZMKWzi4

Here are other pictures from rooms that are giving me inspiration this year.  I loved working with textures and colors. Some of the finishes that I have enjoyed are grisaille murals (monochrome grey colors), chinoiserie,  layered damask finishes and stripping. Decorative Painting has been a passion for me for many years. Using decorative finishes can breathe life into plain spaces, almost making the walls come alive, giving them dimension and or texture!! Although you want to be sure that if you do a textured finish it is something your absolutely love, these types of finishes are usually for life and not for the faint of heart or person that changes their decor like we change our shoes. These finishes make a bold statement, but are somewhat permanent. Here we go…… tell me your favorite space! As always stay tuned…

The House was built by Frank Rossi, in 2008 located in Niskayuna. It was Simply Beautiful a Modern Classic was the theme for last years  Vanguard Showhouse.  All proceeds benefit the Albany Symphony Orchestra. The home, built in 2008 by Frank Rossi, was furnished and decorated by a score or more of the Capital Region’s best artisans.  The home’s 4,200 square gave them plenty of space to work in and numerous built-in amenities to work with.  There were five bedrooms (our Nursery is one) including a master suite, five full and two half baths, a gourmet eat-in kitchen, a formal dining room and a cherry wood library. The finished basement contains a kitchen, one of the baths and one of the bedrooms, a family room and a study area.  The home sits on half an acre in one of the most desired settings near the center of Niskayuna.

Last year I had the pleasure of working with Pamela Quick,  of NY Fine Finishing.

Pam and I looked at the space and thought about doing a child’s room. This was the start of many adventures with this space, many late nights looking for furnishings, lots of fast food, dinners together and brainstorming on how to carry out the design that Pam had in her head. We were able to use beautiful Robert Allen Fabrics (thanks to Jolie Cross Cohen), also Sherwin Williams (who employed me part-time as a consultant ) was kind enough to Donate paint for the whole project. This project and a few others were Highlights of my adventures. Here are some links to articles that popped up about Showhouse 2010 in the Capital District, Times Union, Sneak a Peek, The Examiner

Well posting pictures is so much fun!! Just to reminisce through completed projects, the WOW!! at the end of an adventure when the picture in your head becomes a reality and the feeling of accomplishment. I have had so much fun reminiscing, so enjoy!! I know I have, !!

Furnishings, Hand Painted Ceiling medallion and faux finishes made this space spectacular!!

This gorgeous dresser, was lent to us from Saratoga Signature, The piece of art in this space is a self-portrait of Pam Quick with her newborn daughter. Medallion on the ceiling, by yours truly, Michele Conti!

.

The on suite bath was an added jewel in this space!  What a fabulous Nursery, our room was called Rapunzel’s Tower, the canopy around the beautiful silk bedding (fabrics by from Robert Allen)  formed the tower. The faux on the ceiling and walls by Pam Quick.

Last but not least the picture of Rapunzel’s tower was hand painted on the Doll clothing chest which was in our Fantasy Garden Located in the walk in closet just off the bath.

Stay tuned for more Adventures…….

XOXO
